With the end of the autumn semester - and slowly the end of winter - a new semester begins. In this article, we collected the most important dates and deadlines for you to make planning for the spring semester easier.


Let’s start with the public holidays which apply to all universities: 15 March is a national holiday (Memorial Day of the Hungarian Revolution in 1848). 7 April is Good Friday and Easter Monday is celebrated on 10 April. The International Labor Day is 1 May, and another holiday 29 May is Whit Monday.

Besides the public holidays and day offs it might also help to keep in mind the dates of the academic year. Since it differs from university to university, we collected a non-exhaustive list of schedules that can help you to navigate the upcoming semester:

ELTE starts its spring term between 27 February and 27 May. Exam period starts on 29 May and last until 15 June.

At the University of Szeged – SZTE the term starts on 12 February and last until 18 May. The exam period is between 21 May and 29 June.

Óbuda University – ÓE will start its spring term on 27 February and finish on 3 June which will be followed by the exam period between 5 June and 8 July.

The first day of the spring semester at the Pázmány Péter Catholic University is 13 February and the last is 27 May. The exam period takes place from 29 May and 8 July.

Budapest University of Technology and Economics – BME will start their term on 27 February which ends on 2 June. Exams will take place between 12 June and 7 July.

At the Corvinus University of Budapest and the University of Miskolc spring term starts on 13 February and lasts until 26 May. Exam period is from 30 May until 25 June and from 1 June until 7 July.

The first day of spring term is the same for the University of Dunaújváros – DUE, however the last day of the semester is 21 May, followed by the exams between 22 May and 18 June.

The spring and exam terms at the Semmelweis University – SOTE, at the University of Debrecen – DE and at the University of Pécs -PTE vary between the faculties. For  the dates of SOTE clock HERE, for DE HERE and for PTE HERE.

Students of the Széchenyi István University – SZE will start the term on 6 February and finish on 13 May. Exams will be conducted between 15 May and 1 July.

Last but not least, the term period at the University of Public Service – NKE will be between 1 February and 19 May, while the exam period starts on 22 May and lasts until 30 June.

As you can see, while in most cases these periods correlate among Hungarian Universities, there are always some differences you should consider, so make sure you check out the relevant websites of your university! We wish everyone a successful spring semester!
