The Hungarian Diaspora Scholarship Programme was launched in the autumn of 2020, and it has grown a lot during this short time of period. The programme aims to develop the scholarship holder’s personal, professional, and cultural relations with Hungary. But what where the most important numbers in this year’s application round? How many applications were submitted?

During the application for the academic year 2024/2025, altogether 275 applicants submitted their applications, of which 192 met the basic eligibility criteria.

What were the most popular study fields and levels?

Most of those who passed the technical check were approved for undergraduate study programmes, while graduate (master and one-tier master) and non-degree programmes were also popular. The most popular study programme included Hungarian Language Preparatory Programme as well as Medicine, Psychology and International Relations in English language.

From which countries were most applications submitted?

The programme is available for the members of a Hungarian diaspora living in any country outside of the European Union, the Republic of Serbia, and the Zakarpattia Oblast of Ukraine. In 2024, submissions came from almost all over the world, almost 40% of the eligible applicants came mostly from the United States, Canada, and Brazil.

How many Hungarian host institutions participate in the scholarship programme?

In 2024/2025 application period, altogether 30 Hungarian higher education institutions offered academic programmes for scholarship holders. The most popular universities among the eligible applicants were Eötvös Loránd University, Semmelweis University, the University of Pécs and Corvinus University of Budapest.
