Dunaújváros, among the industrial hubs of the country

The University of Dunaújváros is a modern technical university located in Dunaújváros, one of the youngest and most dynamically developing towns of Hungary. The town has been mainly known as an industrial centre of the country, as it was built related to the Danube Iron Works, the largest and most significant metallurgical-mechanical complex in Hungary. The town lies only 50 km from the seat of the Paks Nuclear Power Plant as well.

 

Thanks to its special geographical location only 65 km away from Budapest, Dunaújváros has many economic and cultural values and excellent infrastructural facilities. Located at the bank of the River Danube, the cozy town is surrounded by many green areas providing opportunities for both relaxing and studying. University students may find several cultural programmes and a vibrant youth life: many cultural centres (such as the Bartók Chamber Theatre), numerous clubs and music festivals. The town was also nominated for the title, The Sports Town of the Nation as it provides various sports facilities such as handball, water polo and icehockey.

 

The University of Dunaújváros

The University of Dunaújváros is the only higher education institution in the city, providing practice-oriented, high-level education in the field of technology, social sciences and engineering teacher training. The predecessor of the university, the Technical School of Metallurgy and Mechanical Engineering was founded in 1953 to educate heavy industry workers in the region. After several integration stages throughout the years, the University of Dunaújváros reached its current line-up in 2016, and by today, it has three university institutes and a Teacher Training Centre.

The University offers a wide range of degree programmes from bachelor’s to master levels for more than 2000 students. The academic programmes cover various fields of engineering, information technology and different social sciences, including mechanical and material sciences engineering,

economics as well as communication and media sciences. The university has a close relationship with several large companies in the region, that provide numerous internship opportunities in most study fields. In cooperation with the Paks Nuclear Power Plant, the only operating nuclear plant station in Hungary, the university offers programmes in the field of nuclear energy as well.

Thanks to the high-quality education, the wide range of scholarship opportunities and the friendly student milieu, the university is more and more popular among international students. Students come from more than 35 countries all over the world, who can choose from 6 Bachelor’s and 2 Master’s programmes in English language, such as Technical Management and Business Administration at BSc and Engineering Teacher programme at MA level. The Mechanical Engineering programme is available in English at BSc and MSc as well.

University life

At its modern campus in the centre of the town, the university provides excellent environment for learning and research: there are large lecture halls with cutting-edge learning facilities, professional, well-equipped laboratories, and an impressive regional library. The campus has a public park with a fountain and a bio-pond in front of the main building and the newly renovated student hostels are also located nearby. The university offers numerous cultural and community programmes for its international students throughout the academic year, such as welcoming events, international evenings and various competitions related to different study fields. The International Office of the university regularly organizes day trips and excursions all over the country, where international students can explore not only Dunaújváros, but other fascinating parts of Hungary as well.
