Congratulations on submitting your application to the Hungarian Diaspora Scholarship Programme! Completing the application is an important milestone, but it is only the beginning of a multi-stage selection process. With several evaluation phases and deadlines ahead, this overview will guide you through what happens next.

First half of February – First Selection Point: Technical Check
Following the January application deadline, Tempus Public Foundation conducts a technical review of all submitted applications. During this phase, applications are checked for basic eligibility and completeness.
Only applications that successfully pass the technical check are forwarded to the next stage, which includes the verification of the Diaspora Recommendation Letter.
28 February – Second Round of Selection: Validation of Diaspora Recommendation Letters
In the second phase, valid applications are forwarded to Hungarian diplomatic representations. At this stage, the authenticity of the Diaspora Recommendation Letter is verified. This includes confirming that the document was issued by a legitimate Hungarian diaspora organization or a Hungarian diplomatic representation.
If inconsistencies are identified, the application may be rejected.

March to May – Third Selection Phase: Institutional Evaluation
Applications that pass the previous stages are sent to higher education institutions for professional assessment. This phase includes a formal review and, where applicable, participation in institutional entrance examinations.
Applicants may take part in up to two entrance examinations, depending on their selected study programmes. The format and timing of these examinations are determined by the institutions themselves. Applicants receive detailed information directly from the relevant institution(s).
April – Fourth Selection Phase: Evaluation of Diaspora Motivation Letters
In parallel with the institutional evaluations, Diaspora Motivation Letters are assessed by independent experts commissioned by the Tempus Public Foundation.
The letters are evaluated based on a unified set of criteria, and the resulting scores contribute to the overall assessment of each application.
Second half of May – Allocation of Admitted Applicants
During the allocation process, several factors are considered, including applicants’ programme preferences, institutional capacities, entrance examination results, and motivation letter scores.
The Diaspora Scholarship Committee reviews the proposed allocation and may define priorities based on regions, countries, academic fields, or programme-specific considerations in order to support diversity.
June – Notification About Selection Results
Applicants will receive statuses such as “awarded Scholarship Holder,” “conditionally awarded,” “awarded on the waiting list,” or “rejected” by the first half of June. Notifications will be sent via email from Tempus Public Foundation, and results will also be available on the Dream Apply online system. Please read Section 3.6 of the Call for Applications for further details regarding the acceptance of the scholarship.
If you have any doubts or questions, we recommend reviewing the Call for Applications document for more details, or the booklet on Practical Information. Should you have any questions not answered by the document, please get in touch with us at .
Your journey with the Hungarian Diaspora Scholarship is moving forward, and we hope this information has been useful as you approach the next steps in the application process. Wishing you the best of luck with your application!
